Rilo Kiley

  • Jenny Lewis-fronted indie rockers Rilo Kiley have apparently broken up. Guitarist Blake Sennett, a recent guest here at KEXP with his band The Elected, told Spinner that the split was a result of “deception, disloyalty, [and] greed.” I don’t know about you, but I was more surprised that Rilo Kiley were even still together.
  • Mere months after the release of his super smooth 2011 album Underneath The Pine, chill-waver Toro Y Moi has announced a new EP, Freaking Out, which will be released this September on Carpark. Download “Saturday Love” fo’ free right here.

  • The Huffington Post is featuring the web premiere of the new video collaboration between Interpol and iconic/iconoclastic director David Lynch. Called “I Touch a Red Button Man,” the short animated film uses the band’s song “Lights” as a backdrop and first debuted during their live show at Coachella this year. Watch it now:

  • It seems like just yesterday when The Drums released their amazing self-titled debut album in 2010. They recently announced that they already have a follow-up in the hopper. Portamento will be released on September 12 in the UK. Listen to the album’s first single, “Money,” via Pitchfork.

  • Jack White hasn’t hidden the fact that he’s a fan of the under-appreciated 60s psychedelic band Love. The White Stripes covered the classic Love track “A House Is Not A Hotel” at least once (I can’t seem to find the YouTube video anymore), and now his own Third Man Records has made two additional covers available. Click here to listen to The White Stripes playing the Love songs “Singed D.C.” and “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long.”
  • After releasing their last three albums on Nonesuch, Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields will be returning to Merge Records, the label that released their classic album 69 Love Songs. And this is more than just a formality: the label will release a collection of older Stephin Merritt material called Obscurities in August, and a new Magnetic Fields album is scheduled for 2012.
  • Here’s a video of Les Savy Fav covering Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out” on a boat. That’s all you need to know...
